Hope at Home Town Hall Meeting Reminder

Hope@Home: Facing The Mortgage Crisis in Southern Nevada is hosting a Town Hall Meeting Presented By Nevada Public Radio & KCEP Power 88.

Join hosts Dave Berns of KNPR’s State of Nevada and Patricia Cunningham of KCEP’s Stimulus Watch for a discussion with community leaders, elected officials and social service leaders on how the mortgage crisis has impacted the community and who has been affected by the practice of predatory lending.

June 1st Episode of Recession Rx

The June 1st episode of Recession Rx featured information on how to lower your energy costs and make your home more energy efficient. This episode also features information about help for pets with Shade Tree Shelter's Staci Columbo and resources for how to lower your prescription drug costs.

We also have new job listings from Nevada JobConnect and information about The Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow - a great resource if you need help improving your skills and finding higher quality jobs.

Author Paul Carpino talked in-studio with Host Cathy Hanson and gave her some job tips from celebrities.

Summer in Las Vegas means higher power bills, but there is help available now, and more along the way.  HELP of Southern Nevada offers a weatherization program for those who qualify.  Anyone who wants to lower their energy costs can participate in the NV Energy Cool Share Program and other rebate programs.

There are a lot of resources available to help cut your prescription drug costs. The Governor's Office of Consumer Health Assistance can link you to several programs you can call (702) 486-3587 to find out about your options. Also, many local pharmacies have “drug card” programs or you can visit the Nevada Drug Card website for more information. Also, there is a website where you can find low cost benefits and a list of partner drug companies or you can check the national directory of pharmaceutical programs.

Nevada Public Radio’s Hope at Home series is holding a town hall meeting on June 11th from 7-9 p.m. at the Clark County Commission Chambers. If you’d like to attend, you must RSVP online.

Also, there is a free jazz concert being offered on June 6th at the Clark County Amphitheater - there are other free events for families listed on their website.
